Tim McGraw's "Humble and Kind," is my June book club selection. This perfect gift-book brings the power of the hit single straight to the written page, reminding us all to stay Humble and Kind!
Today is Memorial Day, the last of a three-day weekend and unofficial kick off of the summer season... and it is so much more!
A national holiday, Memorial Day was set aside by an act of Congress to remember our war dead, from the Civil War onward. To remember. Our war dead.
Do you remember?
How many of you saw my Facebook post yesterday about a man that had a "God moment" and despite the fact that he was having a horrible, rotten, no good, very bad day, was able to notice a woman in the parking lot of the store he'd been shopping at, sitting in her car...?
I have a zebra.
It's true. Call it a rescue. Call it an impulse. Call it an indulgence.... It's actually all three.
Zena the Zebra, was born in captivity, in the southern US, and her mother died. She was taken in by a lovely lady that runs a rescue farm for horses. Zena is not a horse.
Can I come garden with you??? The fabulous folks at The Home Depot are giving me an opportunity to do just that!
I love to share my love of gardening. So I asked my Home Depot friends to help me out and they have! I get to visit YOUR home, help plan YOUR garden, shop with YOU at The Home Depot and then work next to YOU planting and installing!
As I am out in my gardens, or playing with baby goats, laughing and loving with my children and grandchildren... I try to remember to pray. To pray for those who are going through storms.

Tim McGraw’s latest single is titled “Humble and Kind” and with over 40 million views as of today, I believe he struck a chord with a good many people! I know he did with me!
The hit single was inspired by Tim and Faith's daughter who was leaving for college; in true Time McGraw fashion he is speaking from his heart, and beautifully so.
Many of you will also have children graduating from high school in the coming months. But whether they are moving out, moving on, or just moving about their childhood, this is an inspiring song for all of us who wish the very same thing for the children we love.
An amazingly inspirational video accompanies the single.
Watch it HERE.
I love to garden!
No matter where I've lived, the size of my yard (or if I've even had a yard,) I've planted something.
Today I'm fortunate to live on acreage, and I plant a LOT of somethings. Greens, grapes, fruits, veggies, and flowers, flowers, flowers.

BRUSH OF WINGS from bestselling author, Karen Kingsbury
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury comes the third novel in the unforgettable Angels Walking series. BRUSH OF WINGS tells the story of divine intervention and the trials and triumphs of life for a group of friends. BRUSH OF WINGS is a poignant tale of love, sacrifice, and the power of faith.
What a wonderful book and an inspiration to us all about following your heart. The main character, Mary Catherine has such a heart for the children of Africa, as do I. Despite needing a heart transplant and against the advice of her doctor, Mary Catherine moves to Uganda to work at a new orphanage. The people in her life don’t want her to leave, they fear for her health. Her walking angels are busier than ever in this epic battle between life and death. Brush of Wings is a poignant tale of love, sacrifice, and the power of faith.
“Fresh Pick” - FreshFiction.com
"Another hit ... un-put-downable." Starred Review - Library Journal
“Kingsbury peels back the layers of dimensions to allow readers to believe there are angels amongst us, and that they guide us, protect us and, most importantly, pray for us.” - RT Book Reviews (Romantic Times) who also ranked Brush of Wings as a Top Pick
“I greatly enjoy Karen Kingsbury's writing talent and creativity. She knows how to mix real possibilities with fiction to create very, believable novels. Brush of Wings is the third book in her Angels Walking Series. The graphic description of the invisible good versus evil surrounding each of us at all times gave me goose bumps." www.ChristianFictionReviews.com

"Hi, Good evening! Welcome aboard! Who’s this?” Delilah leans toward her switchboard, resting her head on her fist as she holds the telephone that around 50,000 listeners try to reach every night of the week. The walls of her evergreen-surrounded Port Orchard, Washington, studio are decorated in cubicle chic — family photos, children’s art, a Miss Piggy Life magazine cover — and her schnauzer, Sophie, sits still as a statue on an ottoman below the desk.
You know what they say about people who spread rumors...whoever gossips to you will gossip about you. Beware of hanging around someone who is divisive and gossipy. That kind of person is only happy when they're making others unhappy.
I have a friend who invited her crazy sister to come live with her, and now her world is upside down. The sister is turning daughter against mother, the kids are fighting, and there is turmoil in the house where there wasn't before. Sis is making a big mess and causing a lot of strife in the household.
There is enough craziness in the outside world, and home should be your one place of peace. It should be your place of comfort. Now, my home isn't always "peaceful" per se with a bunch of kids, cats, and dogs running throughout, but it is a safe place. Anyone who threatens that safety will be shown the door. Anyone who stirs up trouble will be set straight.
You can't always control the crazy around you, but you can try to be an instrument of peace wherever you go. You can choose whether you will let the crazy, the negativity invade your space, or you can choose to ignore it and lead by example in the way you treat people.
Check your attitude today. How have your conversations gone lately? Are you feeding into toxic negativity, or are you trying to be the peacemaker? I hope you're that 'safe friend' people can feel comfortable around because it's a much healthier way to be.
And I promise each night I will try to bring a note of serenity into your evenings so you can brush off the negativity of the day. I will try to take you to a place in your heart that feels like all the safe comforts of home...
“Delilah has shared all of her stuff on the radio and shares her heartbreak and shares her love of life,” he said. “I think other people say, ‘Wow, if she’s that open and vulnerable, I will be too.’”
It also helps that callers remain largely anonymous like readers who write to Dear Abby.
Delilah developed the format for her radio show in September 1984 when her firstborn son was 16 days old. It was an uphill battle to get the program directors to back her sappy, heart-to-heart talk show, but she believed in the vision and fought for it.
“When you get hundreds of calls a night, people tell you that what you’re doing matters and it’s inspired them, it doesn’t really matter what somebody else’s research shows or opinion says,” she said. “I trust my listeners.”
Of the estimated 62,000 calls she receives over 12 hours each night, she takes about 50-60 of them and only 25 callers get on air.
She hears from all kinds of people from the bubbly to the heartbroken. With some, she becomes their instant best friend and confidant.
“We live in a world where we have all these technologies and all these abilities to connect and communicate with cell phones and iPads and iPhones and faxing and texting and WhatsApp and Facebook,” she said. “Yet, people are lonelier than ever before.”
She’s felt the pangs of loneliness and has relentlessly sought love and given love, even though the act of doing so opened her up to excruciating pain when she lost her adopted 16-year-old son, Sammy, to sickle cell anemia four years ago.
Delilah adopted many of her children when she was single, and many of them have health issues.
“Every day is a challenge,” she said. But it’s apparent she still feels blessed for each new day the sun rises over her 55-acre farm outside of Seattle.
On this particular morning, she got up early and served her children a frittata with homemade goat cheese before they went off to school. They eat a lot of eggs for breakfast – scrambled, boiled, fried – since 600 chickens live on the farm.
She went down to her basement studio for an early-morning interview and got started on the day’s pre-recordings. She walked her dogs, checked on the pregnant goats and pulled some meat out of the freezer for dinner – all before noon.
Delilah says she doesn’t have down days. She has days where she’s annoyed or her heart is breaking, but even then, she’s pretty obnoxiously optimistic.

“Armistice Day,” established to commemorate the end of World War I, by signing of the armistice on the 11th day, of the 11th month, at the 11th hour, evolved into our current Veteran’s Day. Our country has set aside this date, November 11, to honor American veterans of all wars. And we should.
Our service men and women make huge sacrifices to protect our freedoms. Whether you agree or disagree with the missions they are sent upon, you must respect, honor and appreciate their willingness to put their lives on the line for all American citizens.
It breaks my heart to see veterans that are not being shown the proper respect, compassion, and admiration they so richly deserve. I think we can do better.
My life was changed forever when I went on an USO tour with the Air Force Reserve Band to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2006. On one stop of the tour I met several wonderful service men who were being entertained and having a great time during a brief respite. On a subsequent stop, days later, I met many of the same group, grievously injured, some missing limbs, as they arrived at a military hospital.
They were so brave! I could never begin to express the profound mixture of sadness, heartache, and pride I felt greeting each one as they came through a set of double doors. One soldier, missing his legs, saw me and sat up, calling for my autograph to give to his mother, a fan. Can you imagine? I spent more time with this remarkable young man, praying with him and calling his mom on his behalf. We have remained in-touch since.

Please, take some time to thank a veteran today. Buy a “buddy” poppy, shake a hand, give a hug. We owe them so much more; a simple but heartfelt “Thank You” is the very least we can do.
Veterans, you are appreciated. You are honored. You are respected. Thank you and God bless.

I stinken' love this new Seal video and wanted to share it with you!
Seal equals Soul. He evokes so much heart, passion and emotion in every song he records. His soulful, sensual, smoky voice has been requested on my show for decades. And he's got a style that's hard to beat, so cool and calm. Everything you love about Seal is embodied in his music and his lyrics. Which is why it's so exciting that Seal will release a brand-new studio album, entitled 7 which will be one of my 12 Stockings Of Christmas gifts this year, but you should find your way to this CD way before Christmas.
