Francesca Battistelli - This Christmas

This Christmas, a new 14-track collection, with a mix of originals and Christmas classics is the second Christmas album for Grammy® Award-winning artist, Francesca Battistelli. BON JOVI: Do What You Can

The novel coronavirus pandemic brought confusion and frustration to the world. The question, "What do we do now?" echoed around the globe. Jon Bon Jovi answered, in action, word, and song. "When you can't do what you do, do what you can" was the caption to an instagram shot of him washing dishes at JB's Soul Kitchen. Those words became the chorus to another Bon Jovi anthem, one that is sorely needed right now, providing purpose and passion at a time of great need.

"Do What You Can" is one of the singles to the upcoming album, "Bon Jovi 2020" is now set for an October 2nd release. The band decided not to just postpone their world tour, but to cancel it altogether and refund ticket purchases, because, as he said, "People need money in their pockets right now."

Sia penned 10 original songs for the soundtrack; “Together” is one of them and is all about finding your individual voice and your power, and how the embrace of love and family can elevate them even higher.

Chrissy Metz | “Talking To God”

I fell in love with Chrissy Metz’s acting abilities on the hit drama, “This Is Us”, then she wowed me with her performance in the inspiring movie, “Breakthrough”. I had the pleasure of talking with her on an episode of my podcast last year, and realized that acting abilities aside, she is a phenomenal human being… And while I knew she could sing, honestly, I had no idea just how well she could sing!

Recently Chrissy was signed by International Music Group Nashville, and has just recently released the single, “Talking to God” now climbing the Country charts. My book club pick for April, DAWGS, by Diane Trull is the story of how a 4th grade reading class, called to action by a newspaper photo of a box of puppies in need of homes, started an animal shelter in their town of Dalhart, Texas.

New Movie | "I Still Believe"

There is a phenomenal new movie coming to theaters this spring. “I Still Believe” the true story of Jeremy Camp, is available OnDemand, Friday March 27th!

Camp, as many of you know, is a Grammy-nominated Christian singer and songwriter. He’s sold more than 5 million albums and has fans world-wide. He, and his music, which includes singles “There Will Be A Day,” and “Overcome,” (as well as many many more) are so beloved, he’s become nearly legendary.

I can say the film is phenomenal because I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peak! (This radio thing has it perks!) It covers the very personal journey of faith, hope, love… and music that Camp undertook with his first wife, Melissa. It’s got a star-studded cast that includes K.J. Apa and Britt Robertson as Jeremy and Melissa, with Gary Sinese and Shania Twain portraying his parents.

The film does a beautiful job of demonstrating how God can, and will, carry us through the toughest of times.

Oh my word, how I LOVE Christmas!

The Delilah show has been Your Christmas Station for several decades now, and along with the tried and true (and able to sing-along-to) carols we all know and love, I’m like a kid opening their stocking when I gleefully unwrap all the newer holiday tunes of the season.

You may be familiar with Idina Menzel because of her iconic role in Frozen and that ONE song that’s been in our head since it’s release, Let It Go… But here’s another reason to get to know this super talented actress and songstress, she’s released a Christmas album with a whopping 18 tracks to it, including several duets with folks such as Ariana Grande, Billy Porter, Josh Gad, and her talented hubby, Aaron Lohr.

I’m equally impressed with the new song by Idina, At This Table, that she wrote with Jonas Myrin. It’s all about celebrating diversity and embracing those different from us during the holiday season!

Bay Area singer songwriter Matt Nathanson is a delightful and insightful guy that’s a BIG favorite of a family member who introduced me to his music. I love both, and am sharing HIS thoughts about these songs and what they mean to him, because it so perfectly captures his spirit and provides a compelling reason to give them a listen!

John Legend: A Legendary Christmas

Some of my favorite tracks are What Christmas Means to Me, with the legendary Stevie Wonder playing along on his harmonica! The magical, Christmas Time is Here, and the fun, Purple Snow Flakes, which became Delilah Jr’s favorite the second she heard it! (Can you guess her favorite color?!)

Lewis Capaldi, a young Scottish singer/songwriter has exploded upon the scene with his single “Someone You Loved”.

In interviews he has said the song was written with “open ended” lyrics purposefully so that it could apply to many different situations that people might be going through themselves, rather than being only about him. His inspiration came from a recent breakup and two bereaved losses in his family, but why it might resonate with you or me will be from our own experiences.

He says, “It’s very nice to have people come up to me and have their own reasons for why that song helped them or was important to them. It was nice to see the ways in which people are connecting to it. And it’s been alright, I think!”

“Someone You Loved” is from Capaldi’s’ Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent' album and is one of the most moving pop singles I have heard in a very long time.

Blake Shelton has knocked it out of the field with the country anthem, “God’s Country,” his newest hit single.

Blame it on my farming roots, my love of our land, or Shelton’s blue eyes, but “God’s Country” puts me in a proud as a peacock mood and it must be resonating with a LOT of people because it’s the fastest country single in the past year to reach one million track equivalents.

“As long as I’ve been making music I’m still shocked and amazed at the power of a song and I’m never prepared for it,” said Shelton. “‘God’s Country’ is an anthem for anybody and everybody who’s proud of where they come from. I’m honored to have been given this song from Devin Dawson, Hardy and Jordan Schmidt who are incredible writers.”

Summer is here!

Bring on the picnics, beach days, ice cream trucks, book lists, and feelin’ fine music!

So many concerts, so little time! No warm-weather schedule is so packed however, that it wouldn’t allow for some downloads and earbuds. Might I suggest…

Katy Perry’s new single, Never Really Over. I find myself singing along in the car with Blessing and Delilah Jr… It’s contagiously catchy and fun, but what else could it be? It’s from Katy Perry!

Or how ‘bout those Jonas Brothers?! Charming, handsome, and hip; I’m a sucker for their new single, Sucker, from the album Happiness Begins and I know you will be too! Their tour kicks off from Miami, FL in August and wraps up in Paris, France next February. Grab tickets when they’re in your area!

My kiddos are all out of school now, and summer is fully underway. That means numerous trips daily between friends homes, craft stores, sporting events, and more!

Sometimes I feel like a taxi driver, but then I remind myself of how precious this time is. So much sharing goes on between us (not to mention the eaves-dropping on precious and precocious conversations) and our “performances” as we belt out the week’s new faves are legendary (in our own minds!)

My Mother's Day Bushel of Blessings

We reserve the second Sunday in May to honor mother’s and the art of mothering, for where would we be without these nurturing warriors?

That term, “nurturing warrior,” describes my own mother perfectly. Wilma Dean was a 6’ tall Ozark beauty, who lived and loved fiercely. Always ready with a warm embrace, a word of encouragement, and a hearty meal, she was also quick with advice or a deserved scolding, and you would never - I mean NEVER - come between her and one of her children! I’ll bet you know a mother just like I’ve described!

The song lyrics, “I love you a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck…” were sung in my family home often, and has inspired me to send this bushel of blessings your way for Mother’s Day.

She could never have known that by creating a popular youth activity it would develop into what we today know as baseball’s Little League; you’ll love this story!

And A Brave Face, by mother-daughter team, Barbara Marlowe and Teeba Furat Marlowe. What does it take to become a mom? It’s a mixture of love, bravery, and tenacity as you’ll soon discover when reading about the woman who saw a picture of a little girl in Iraq desperately needing help and decided then and there, she’d be the one to provide it…

I hope the these books keep you busy through the remainder of spring; when the days are lengthening but still a bit chilly, and curling up with a cozy throw, a cup of tea, and some great reading material still sounds like a fantastic way to spend an evening or weekend.

Barbara and Teeba were also recent guests on LOVE SOMEONE! I encourage you to give that episode some of your time and attention as their story is truly touching and so very inspirational!

A very full album with 12 singles - 9 of them co-written by the man himself! It’s an album of gratitude, opening with the single Granted, and following with many personal and touching songs. There is an impressive guest line-up on Bridges as well, such as Sarah McLachlan, on Run, Andrea Bocelli on We Will Meet Again, and Jennifer Nettles on 99 Years. But I think my favorite is his collaboration with Flamenco musician Vicente Amigo on Musica del Corazon! Wow. Just wow.

I recently caught up with Josh in New York City; a kind, lovely, man who remains grounded and true to his authentic self - he’s matured for sure, but still the 19 year old I met for the first time many years ago.
