Ease Into Autumn with Great Music!

Screen Shot 2019-08-15 at 2.52.47 PM.png

Morning’s in the Pacific Northwest have greeted me with a little fog this past week. And then the skies clear and the sun shines brightly throughout the day, but I know that early a.m. moisture means that fall is not far off…

If we can’t prevent it, let’s embrace it, and maybe even dance with it!

To assist with both, I’m suggesting some great new music for you to add to your collection. Ease into Autumn with:

Lionel Richie! If you love old school, you’ll love “Hello From Las Vegas!” released just this week!

Lionel Richie.png

Recorded at Zappos Theater at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, Hello From Las Vegas features Richie performing material from throughout his career, including beloved songs from his solo albums like All Night Long,” “Hello,” “Say You, Say Me,” “Dancing On The Ceiling,” and “Truly” and his time with The Commodores with “Three Times a Lady,” and “Easy”. The album also includes an inspiring performance of the landmark song “We Are the World,” which Richie co-wrote for USA for Africa.

It doesn’t get any better than this!

Lewis Capaldi, a young Scottish singer/songwriter has exploded upon the scene with his single “Someone You Loved”.

Screen Shot 2019-07-25 at 11.14.21 AM.png

In interviews he has said the song was written with “open ended” lyrics purposefully so that it could apply to many different situations that people might be going through themselves, rather than being only about him. His inspiration came from a recent breakup and two bereaved losses in his family, but why it might resonate with you or me will be from our own experiences.

He says, “It’s very nice to have people come up to me and have their own reasons for why that song helped them or was important to them. It was nice to see the ways in which people are connecting to it. And it’s been alright, I think!”

“Someone You Loved” is from Capaldi’s’ Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent' album and is one of the most moving pop singles I have heard in a very long time.

Blake Shelton has knocked it out of the field with the country anthem, “God’s Country,” his newest hit single.

Screen Shot 2019-08-15 at 2.26.14 PM.png

Blame it on my farming roots, my love of our land, or Shelton’s blue eyes, but “God’s Country” puts me in a proud as a peacock mood and it must be resonating with a LOT of people because it’s the fastest country single in the past year to reach one million track equivalents.

“As long as I’ve been making music I’m still shocked and amazed at the power of a song and I’m never prepared for it,” said Shelton. “‘God’s Country’ is an anthem for anybody and everybody who’s proud of where they come from. I’m honored to have been given this song from Devin Dawson, Hardy and Jordan Schmidt who are incredible writers.”

Old school, pop, and country - three great genre’s to listen, dance, or sing along to as the warm nights change into chilly mornings punctuated by bright yellow school buses on the road. (A happy but bittersweet sight in early fall…) Enjoy!

My Campus Comforts Sweepstakes

Screen Shot 2019-07-25 at 2.05.53 PM.png

We’ve reached the dog days of summer, that lazy, indolent time when the sun seems to never set, the A/C never shuts off, and school is but a distant memory… But guess what? The aisles are already stocked with dread Back to School supplies because in a blink of a puppy’s eye, September will be upon us.

Do you have a recent high school grad packing up their childhood room and nervously but excitedly readying themselves for campus life? Although I can do nothing for your heart, dear parent, grandparent, adoring aunt or uncle, I CAN help you send your newly minted college student off with a few creature comforts.

Write me a note (D@Delilah.com) and tell me all about this special person that will soon be navigating a strange town, meeting new friends, doing their own laundry, (except for those times they bring home a semester’s worth as a gift to you) and rising to the challenge of college curricula.

I’ll choose one entry at random, and send back my College Comfort Sweepstakes bundle that will include:

  • A set of the softest sheets available! PeachSkinSheets are made with a 21st century SMART fabric, they are high performance textiles designed to wick away moisture, keeping even the hottest sleepers comfortable all night long.

PeachSkinSheets come in XL Twin Dorm, the size of most dorm mattresses, but you can order whatever size needed!

  • A $100 Gift Card from The Company Store! Use it on bedding or bath needs, pj’s or robe, a backpack or tote… smart and stylish storage solutions, a desk lamp or other accessories.

If it’s needed, chances are The Company Store will have it!

  • How ‘bout a cozy, comfy, footed throw from my friends at PediPockets?

Late nights, chilly afternoons, or early morning study sessions will be so much more comfortable with toes tucked to the perfect study or lounging companion, the PediPocket!

  • Music while studying? Maybe to unwind after an exam or in the evenings? I’m including three great CD’s too:

  • And, even though there will be more textbooks than the new student knows what to do with, having some lighter and some inspirational reading on hand isn’t a bad idea. I’m tucking in three books:

    • Northern Lights - My August Book Club pick, This autobiography by Kathy Parker is just in time for football season! Want to know what a woman from Jacksonville, FL has to do with a struggling football team in Barrow, AK??? Read Northern Lights, a beautiful reminder of how we’re sometimes called to the most unlikely of causes—and how, when we believe in something bigger than ourselves, we can change our own lives and the lives of others for the better!

    • Dare to Matter, by Dr. Jordan Kassalow & Rabbi Jennifer Krause. Have you ever had the feeling that the world was conspiring to tell you that you did not matter? Before Jordan had a “Dr.” in front of his name, he did. But he pushed back against that notion and has helped to restore vision and livelihoods to millions across the globe since. Rabbi Jen joins him in telling his story and inspires all of us to confront these feelings and Dare To Matter!

      * Jordan & Jen recently joined me on an episode of my podcast series, LOVE SOMEONE with Delilah. Want to be inspired??? Listen in!

    • One Heart At A Time, my book. When you’re busy living your life, it doesn’t really occur to you that much about it is remarkable… but I was so often approached and asked to tell my story, that I finally did. One Heart At A Time, is my attempt to fulfill the request of many that I share my secret to a full and blessed life. My hope is that it will somehow inspire you to follow whatever that little whisper in YOUR heart is, and you will step forward in faith and change the world, One. Heart. At. A. Time.

  • What’s missing? Snacks and beverages of course! But not to worry! One of my favorite treats - rich, buttery, Almond ROCA candy will satisfy any sweet-tooth craving! Brown & Haley also make some of the most delicious hot chocolate perfect for sipping on those fall days when the temperature is dipping and the test prep is heating up! And if that’s not enough, Jolly Time Popcorn is just the ticket after the cafeteria has closed. No one is going hungry or thirsty!

My mama’s heart is touched each year at this time as I watch parents, full of pride and apprehension, send their babies out into the world to follow their own paths.

Hopefully my Campus Comfort Sweepstakes bundle will help in some small, but comforting, way!

New Music for Summer Time!

Screen Shot 2019-06-19 at 3.50.25 PM.png

Summer is here!

Bring on the picnics, beach days, ice cream trucks, book lists, and feelin’ fine music!

So many concerts, so little time! No warm-weather schedule is so packed however, that it wouldn’t allow for some downloads and earbuds. Might I suggest…

Screen Shot 2019-06-17 at 2.25.14 PM.png

Katy Perry’s new single, Never Really Over. I find myself singing along in the car with Blessing and Delilah Jr… It’s contagiously catchy and fun, but what else could it be? It’s from Katy Perry!

Screen Shot 2019-06-17 at 2.28.26 PM.png

Or how ‘bout those Jonas Brothers?! Charming, handsome, and hip; I’m a sucker for their new single, Sucker, from the album Happiness Begins and I know you will be too! Their tour kicks off from Miami, FL in August and wraps up in Paris, France next February. Grab tickets when they’re in your area!

Screen Shot 2019-06-17 at 2.29.21 PM.png

Meanwhile, P!nk’s new album, Hurts 2B Human found itself in the No. 1 spot on Billboards top 200 list back in March. Walk Me Home is another great sing-along as I shuttle kids back and forth, and the album is packed full of what I know will be your new favorites!

And, I can hardly wait for Lover, one of the most anticipated albums of the year from Taylor Swift. It comes out on August 24 and features the fab singles, ME and You Need To Calm Down. Me? Calm down? No way, I LOVE this album!!!

My kiddos are all out of school now, and summer is fully underway. That means numerous trips daily between friends homes, craft stores, sporting events, and more!

Sometimes I feel like a taxi driver, but then I remind myself of how precious this time is. So much sharing goes on between us (not to mention the eaves-dropping on precious and precocious conversations) and our “performances” as we belt out the week’s new faves are legendary (in our own minds!)

I hope your summers are off to great starts, full of good people, good things, and fabulous music!

Dad's Day Gift Box Sweepstakes

My Dad’s Day Gift Box

My Dad’s Day Gift Box

I’ve recently given away a basket of good things for Easter, and a bushel of blessings for Mother’s Day… It wouldn’t be fair to skip over the very very important men in our lives, so I’ve pulled together a box brimming with gifts for a special dad on his day!

How does books, music, relaxation, candy, and a shopping spree sound to you?

I’ve chosen three books I think he’ll enjoy; an inspiring autobiography, and two action-packed novels my hubby gives the thumbs-up!

Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 2.51.26 PM.png

GRATEFUL AMERICAN, by Gary Sinise: You know him from his stage, film, and television roles, and perhaps for his musical act, The Lieutenant Dan Band… and now you’ll know him for his book, Grateful American. After 9/11, honoring America’s defenders with the respect and gratitude their sacrifices deserve became Gary’s focus. He now works tirelessly on behalf of those who serve this country through the Gary Sinise Foundation with a mission to serve and honor veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.

Grateful American is the moving, entertaining, profoundly gripping story of how one man found his calling: to see that those who defend this country and its freedoms are never forgotten and to inspire others to a life of service and gratitude.

OPEN CARRY, by Marc Cameron:  Open Carry is the first in a new series featuring U.S. Marshal Arliss Cutter. He’s on a case in the icy wastelands of southeast Alaska, where someone’s declared open season on humans, including a young native girl. Cutter’s job is to find the bodies, examine the crew’s footage for clues, and track down the men who killed them. Easier said than done. Especially when the whole town is hiding secrets, the trail leads to a dead end—and the hunter becomes the prey . . .

Cameron took over for Tom Clancy, and is the bestselling author of the latest Jack Ryan novels.  His nearly 30 years in law enforcement serving as a police officer, SWAT member, detective, and Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal helps to explain his mastery of his action novels.

CUTTHROATS by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone: After a lifetime of robbing banks and holding up trains, Jimmy “Slash” Braddock and Melvin “Pecos Kid” Baker are ready to call it quits—though not completely by choice. Sold out by their old gang, Slash and Pecos have to bust out of jail and pull one last job to finance their early retirement . . .

Not every Western hero wears a white hat or a tin star. The Greatest Western Writers of the 20th Century kick off a new series featuring two wanted outlaws - with one heck of a story…

I’ve tossed in some great music too!

Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 2.56.01 PM.png

Damn Country Music, by my good friend, Tim McGraw: This cd features the hit single, Humble and Kind, one of my favorite songs ever! I’ve not met anybody (that enjoys Country music even a little bit) that didn’t sing the praises of this song. I’ve had sons and daughters dedicated it to dads, dad’s dedicated it to sons and son-in-laws, wives dedicating it to husbands. Humble and Kind, the ideal we all reach for and that we wish upon our loved ones.

Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 2.55.51 PM.png

Brave Enough, Lindsey Stirling: Another great friend, Lindsey, is an incredible violinist and dancer who has managed to merge these two talents, and in combination with her gypsy spirit, unique style, incredible inner and outer beauty, created an entirely new genre of entertainment that appeals to a huge variety of music lovers. Did I say “unique?” We are so fortunate to be able to experience life through Lindsey’s music, that’s why I’m including Brave Enough in the box of gifts for Dad!

Everyone loves to shop - for things THEY want!

Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 2.54.49 PM.png

So I’m also including a $50 Gift Card for The Home Depot. Whether it’s a new tool or two, some gardening equipment or plant starts, garage organizers, or an interesting gadget, The Home Depot has it all. The winner of my gift box will have $50 to spend any ole’ way he wants!

How ‘bout some R&R after all that shopping?

Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 2.58.32 PM.png

Gravity Blanket: Last year I stumbled upon a product that has an unbelievable soothing, calming effect - by design! The Gravity Blanket, a weighted throw, uses the power of "deep touch pressure stimulation" shown to increase serotonin and melatonin, the hormones responsible for calming relaxation, while decreasing cortisol, the hormone responsible for stress.

What dad couldn’t benefit from that?! Enter to win one in the box or could pick one up for him, and one for yourself at Gravity Blanket.

  • Designed with the same therapeutic benefits as the original Gravity Blanket, the new Cooling Blanket will keep you cool and comfortable all summer long during use. Use code DELILAH to get 20% off your purchase at gravityblankets.com!

Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 2.59.23 PM.png

Almond Roca, from Brown & Haley: I’m so fortunate to have confectioners Brown & Haley as long-time sponsors, and even luckier still to have them in my back yard! Almond Roca was delivered on festive occasions to my childhood home by my grandmother, and now that I have grandchildren of my own, I love to spoil them with this special treat. Spoil your dad with the unmistakable taste of Almond Roca!

My Dad’s Day Gift Box Sweepstakes is not a contest; the winner will be picked at random from all entrants.

All you must do is send me an email and let me know you’d like to win it. You DO know of course, that I’d absolutely LOVE it if you included a little story about a special dad in your life!

Write to me HERE by midnight on Sunday, June 9.
