'Tis the Season! Of glad tidings and joy, of shopping and sipping, of gathering and gifts... of stress and hardships too. Life does not take a break for the holidays and many are still struggling as the Christmas tunes blare over the mall speakers.

Uninvited | December Book Club

Uninvited | December Book Club

UninvitedLiving Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely, by Lysa TerKeurst, is my book club pick for December. I chose this particular book because it is a beautiful, biblical, honest, and witty look at how we process rejection.

Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love - Brilliant!

Watch the trailer on Facebook, and on Twitter.

Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love airs on NBC on November 30 at 9/8c.

Nearly 16 million viewers tuned in to watch Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors last year... All 16 million I'm sure are excited that NBC is announcing the sequel Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.

I've long been a Dolly Parton fan, from way back watching the Porter Wagner show at my grandparents and listening to their 8-track tape player (ka-chunck.)  I've always admired her spirit, her faith, her delightful laugh, and her tenacity.

To say that I've admired her voice - well, how can I put into words what her voice and her music mean to me? She has inspired and uplifted me and touched my heart in so many ways. For every stage of my life, there's a Dolly Parton song that matches up; "I Will Always Love You," "Islands In The Stream," "Hard Candy Christmas..."

Last year I watched the story of her early childhood, Coat of Many Colors and absolutely loved it, as did my children. My mother grew up in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, in very similar circumstances, so not only did I find it a beautiful story of Dolly's younger years, but I could see my mother and grandparents as supporting characters in this hard-scrabble life.

I'm so looking forward to her continuing story in Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love which picks up where Coat of Many Colors left off. It stars the original cast which are all favorites of mine as well! Jennifer Nettles, as Avie Lee Parton, Ricky Shroder, as Robert Lee Parton, Gerald McRaney as Rev. Jake Owens, and Alyvia Alyn Lind as young Dolly.

"“DOLLY PARTON'S CHRISTMAS OF MANY COLORS: CIRCLE OF LOVE is the next chapter in the life of young Dolly Parton. The film delivers Christmas joy and peril as an unexpected blizzard threatens the Parton family while at the same time Dolly’s father (and his kids) make sacrifices to raise enough money to finally buy his loving wife the wedding ring he could never afford to give her. Meanwhile, an important person in little Dolly’s life begins to see that her amazing voice and musical gift might just be made for something bigger than rural Tennessee."

I know what my kids and I will be doing in the evening of November 30! Watching Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love at 9/8c on NBC!

Building Bridges to a Loving Tomorrow

Building Bridges to a Loving Tomorrow

So the election has finally coming to an end. The commercials will disappear and the daily rhetoric will become less.... but the divisive energy that has adversely affected us all could very well continue to steal your serenity. Don't let it!

New "Can't Live Without" | Copper Chef All-around square pan

New "Can't Live Without" | Copper Chef All-around square pan

Copper Chef was supposed to be great on all cooking surfaces and in the oven, work as a rice-cooker, steamer, roasting pan, stock-pot, wok, and baking dish. It's extra deep sides were said to hold 25% more food than most round pans. It's non-stick (no butter or oils, so heart-healthy) and a cinch to clean-up.

Guess what? They were everything they were supposed to be!

The Magnolia Story | November Book Club

The Magnolia Story | November Book Club

The Magnolia Story, my book club pick for November, is THEIR story. It is one of hope and hard work, of shaky ground, of seeking balance, one of losses... and one of Gaines. In essence it is the story of the Great American Dream come true.

I often encourage people to make more time to do the things they love to do. In this crazy busy world, it’s not easy to find time to feed your soul amid everything else you must get done.

Closing the Book on Autumn

Autumn at the Farm

The trees outside my windows are nearly bare, the leaves that clothed them carelessly strewn about the gardens and banked up against the side of the barn like piles of unwashed laundry.

Autumn means we're nearing the end of the the story for this year, closing the book, if you will. Winter will be little more than a smear of ink on blank pages...

It's a lovely time though, and has me reminiscing about the year and you, and all the trust you place in me.

Give a listen:
