AWESOME AUGUST | Music Notes

I’ve got three brand new beauties to brighten up your August play lists! Two of these artists have been recent guests on my podcast, LOVE SOMEONE with Delilah, so if you haven’t already listened to the episodes with Katy Perry and Jon Bon Jovi, you’ll want to do that as soon as you’ve finished reading this! And if you did listen right after they dropped - go ahead, listen again! They’re great conversations, with great artists, and you’ll be in a great mood afterward!

KATY PERRY: Smile

"Yeah, I'm thankful/ Scratch that, baby, I'm grateful/ Gotta say it's really been a while/ But now I got back that smile/ Smile,"

Smile is the upcoming fifth studio album by our sweetest of sweethearts, and someone you rarely see without a radiant smile on her face, Ms. Katy Perry. It’s scheduled to be released at the end of this month, on August 28th!

I covered the first single that dropped, “Daisies” back in my May Music Notes and had a great chat with Katy about it on my podcast. Also, I absolutely can not get enough of the adorable video to “Smile,” which debuted on July 10, and I’m looking forward to listening to the album in it’s entirety; all 12 tracks, which include “Daisies”, “Never Really Over,” “Harley’s in Hawaii,” and “What Makes A Woman,” celebrating the indefinable quality – or combination of qualities – that women bring to the world. An especially important subject for Perry, who just welcomed her first child, a daughter, with Orlando Bloom!

KEITH URBAN: The Speed of Now

Four-time Grammy winner, Keith Urban, will release a new studio album on September 18, entitled, “The Speed Of Now.” It features 15 tracks, and many collaborations with fan favorites like the opening track, “Out The Cage,” with Breland and legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers. Also joining the party, is P!nk on “One Too Many,” and, an alternate version of “We Were,” features the song’s co-writer, Eric Church!

The Speed Of Now, includes the smash hit, “We Were,” the current Top #8 single, “God Whispered Your Name,” and already released tracks “Polaroid” and “Superman”.

Join Keith on Wednesday, September 16th (my oldest son’s birthday!) when he hosts the ACM Awards on CBS.

BON JOVI: Do What You Can

The novel coronavirus pandemic brought confusion and frustration to the world. The question, "What do we do now?" echoed around the globe. Jon Bon Jovi answered, in action, word, and song. "When you can't do what you do, do what you can" was the caption to an instagram shot of him washing dishes at JB's Soul Kitchen. Those words became the chorus to another Bon Jovi anthem, one that is sorely needed right now, providing purpose and passion at a time of great need.

"Do What You Can" is one of the singles to the upcoming album, "Bon Jovi 2020" is now set for an October 2nd release. The band decided not to just postpone their world tour, but to cancel it altogether and refund ticket purchases, because, as he said, "People need money in their pockets right now."

For the full scoop, listen to my recent podcast with Jon, who is as warm and wonderful as ever, and has some important advice to all Americans.

Music! Music! Music! | Music Notes

What’s new under the sun? MUSIC!

There is so much new music being released, and with tours cancelled world-wide, it’s up to radio and other media to get it to you! So here’s three to make you feel good while grounded:

Daisies.png

KATY PERRY: “Daisies”

Soon to be mama, Katy, introduced her forthcoming 5th full-length album on May 15 with the single “Daisies".

Positive, powerful, and (dare I say it?) FRESH as a daisy… I know you and I are equally happy to welcome the single and eventually - in August!!! - the whole album, into our summer play list!

for KING & COUNTRY: “Together”

With a new song and video, Grammy Award-winning music duo, for KING & COUNTRY, remind listeners what it means to be "Together" in this beautifully written and performed new single featuring Tori Kelly and Kirk Franklin.

Reflecting the reality of the times, the “Together” video couldn’t be produced on a stage set, so it features video shot in the artist’s homes with fan-submitted messages of all the emotions felt during the coronavirus pandemic; loss, love, strength, and humor.

"And if we fall, we will fall together/ Together. And when we rise, we will rise together/ Together."

TIM MCGRAW: “I Called Mama”

As he often does, Tim made me cry with his latest, “I Called Mama", released before Mother’s Day this year.

Tim captures just how cathartic it can be to hear that familiar voice that makes you feel like whatever the issue, everything is going to work out ok in the end.

Right now we’re all wanting reassurance, so for those who can, call your mama - for those who can’t, be a compassionate ear for someone who may need it, and listen to this great new tune!

New Music for Summer Time!

Screen Shot 2019-06-19 at 3.50.25 PM.png

Summer is here!

Bring on the picnics, beach days, ice cream trucks, book lists, and feelin’ fine music!

So many concerts, so little time! No warm-weather schedule is so packed however, that it wouldn’t allow for some downloads and earbuds. Might I suggest…

Katy Perry’s new single, Never Really Over. I find myself singing along in the car with Blessing and Delilah Jr… It’s contagiously catchy and fun, but what else could it be? It’s from Katy Perry!

Or how ‘bout those Jonas Brothers?! Charming, handsome, and hip; I’m a sucker for their new single, Sucker, from the album Happiness Begins and I know you will be too! Their tour kicks off from Miami, FL in August and wraps up in Paris, France next February. Grab tickets when they’re in your area!

Meanwhile, P!nk’s new album, Hurts 2B Human found itself in the No. 1 spot on Billboards top 200 list back in March. Walk Me Home is another great sing-along as I shuttle kids back and forth, and the album is packed full of what I know will be your new favorites!

And, I can hardly wait for Lover, one of the most anticipated albums of the year from Taylor Swift. It comes out on August 24 and features the fab singles, ME and You Need To Calm Down. Me? Calm down? No way, I LOVE this album!!!

My kiddos are all out of school now, and summer is fully underway. That means numerous trips daily between friends homes, craft stores, sporting events, and more!

Sometimes I feel like a taxi driver, but then I remind myself of how precious this time is. So much sharing goes on between us (not to mention the eaves-dropping on precious and precocious conversations) and our “performances” as we belt out the week’s new faves are legendary (in our own minds!)

I hope your summers are off to great starts, full of good people, good things, and fabulous music!
