Delilah,

For many years, I have been one of Santa's helpers. Our local post office would have a Santa's mailbox and I found out that they just threw the letters away. So, I convinced them to let me collect the letters from Santa's box and mail letters and a treat back to each young writer.

So, now I wear my Santa hat and carry my red and white Santa's bag to collect the letters. Being in a small town, sometimes I know the kids or someone in their family, so that helps me really personalize the letters.

So far this year, I have had a couple of letters that have brought tears to my eyes. The first one was from a little girl who wished her mom would quit smoking. This week, one young girl sent Santa a letter starting out with an apology if she asked for too much. Here are those items:

  1. To believe
  2. Pics of your reindeer
  3. To be cheerful
  4. To be nice
  5. For friends to get everything they wished for
  6. Crissa doll
  7. iPod
  8. Robot

Then she apologized again but wanted two more things:

  1. A pic of me and dad
  2. Dad to get home safely

Now, I was in tears. Here was a little girl who probably had a dad serving our country and most of her wants were not materialistic things. THAT is the spirit of CHRISTmas!
