One time I actually got a dollar bill that someone had written on; it read: Pay it forward. Well of course I would pay it forward; I planned to use that dollar. But what I hadn’t really thought of was the other way I could pay it forward, by helping someone out. Next thing I know I’m at a stoplight where firemen had congregated asking people to “stuff the boots” for a good cause. And as quickly as it came, there my dollar went into the boot to help someone out.
Have you ever come across a note or quote or inspiration of some sort in a random place? In the middle of a used book, for example. Or on Facebook. And it was just what you needed to motivate you or lift your spirits or change your mind? That’s because the person who left that note, meant it for you. Yes, without knowing you, they knew you’d find it and need it. They produced a secret act of love just for you.
Try it today. Leave a message somewhere for someone to find: a note of encouragement or your favorite quote. Tape it to a park bench. Write it in the sand. Write it on a dollar bill. Leave it next to the community coffee pot at your office. Leave a bookmark in the next book you turn into the library or sell at your garage sale. Perform this secret act of love and though you probably won’t know who picks it up, I truly believe that will be the person who needed it most. Just a thought.
