My boyfriend, Jeff, planned a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation with the goal to ask me to marry him. What he didn’t plan was to end up in the hospital. Jeff and his friend, Dustin, were heading back to the condo our family was staying at when they were approached on the street by two men. They were beaten, robbed and left there on the concrete, unconscious. The police found both of them and they ended up spending three days in the hospital.

On that last day his father brought the video camera into the hospital. How odd, I thought. Jeff said to his friend, "Dustin and I feel really bad about what happened. But there's one thing I want to do, and that's tell Rachel I love her very much, and I would like that part to be forever if she’ll have me." He got down on one knee and pulled out a beautiful ring.

Of course, I said yes! He had asked for my parents’ blessing before the trip, and all this was supposed to involve a sleigh ride (which didn’t happen). We didn’t think we’d spend the night in the ICU! I can’t wait to become Mrs. Soler! And we already have the “in sickness and in health” part down pat. Rachel

Well, it wasn’t the romantic sleigh ride proposal that was intended but somehow it means more…and the wedding means more and her future husband means more…because she certainly won’t take those things for granted. Isn’t it amazing how something good and meaningful can come from a really bad situation? Was there a time in your life where something good came out of something bad?
