What’s up everyone?! Most people around the studio call me Richie, but I also go by Rich. I’ll answer to either one. You may catch me on the phone lines, either helping shoppers with Delilah’s magnificent merchandise or taking listener requests and dedications. I’m new to the Delilah Show staff, but I’m quite familiar with the show and how it has grown and progressed over the years.
I am blessed to be the (self-proclaimed) favorite nephew of Producer Jane. I was just a young lad when Jane and Delilah first unofficially met. You see, my mother has been a nightly listener of the Delilah show since I was a boy. At her desk working the night shift among a department of fellow listeners, Mom and her colleagues listened attentively to the stories shared with Delilah every night. Knowing this, my Aunt Jane - being the practical joker that she is - called the show and spoke to Delilah, telling her that she wanted to request a song for her sister who had recently tuned 40, lost over 200 pounds and quit smoking cigars!!! Now you have to know my mother to appreciate the humor behind this story. She’s a beautiful woman. She was 35 years old at the time, never smoked a cigar in her life, and hasn’t let her weight fluctuate more than a pound here and there since she gave birth to her baby boy 20-some years ago! Her entire department heard the call and people began coming to her office to congratulate her on her personal accomplishments. “Wow, Beverly you look amazing! Congratulations!” Needless to say my mother was quite embarrassed and still hasn’t completely forgiven her sister for ‘the call.’ I was born in a suburb about 20 miles south of Boston, MA. I am part of a family of four. I have one sister (older) and a mother and father that I wouldn’t replace for the world! I truly owe everything I have accomplished to them. I began excelling in sports, mainly hockey, at a very young age. This pretty much consumed my adolescent life and dominated my high school and college years. I always thought I would be a professional hockey player. Even when I declared my major as a freshman at Elmira College as Business/Marketing, I always thought I would tie my degree into sports in some way; at that point, school was still subsequent to hockey.
A few misfortunes and some inopportune decision-making during my early years in college forced me away from the game I loved. I decided to refocus my energies towards my studies. It was like going to school for the first time! Listening and applying the skills I learned in class, I realized “this stuff is kind of ok.” I was also fairly good at it. I saw working for the Delilah Show as an amazing opportunity for employment, and also to travel, meet new people, and to have the privilege to be part of something special. I made the decision to journey onboard and have loved every minute of working here thus far. It is truly an honor and a privilege to work here and the staff has been so welcoming.
I am currently single and living in a new city. I look forward to this new and exciting phase of my life!
