Musical Spice Rack

Here are some of the "spice" songs we play. They deviate from the mainstream music (and drive my boss nuts!), but like any good spice, when used appropriately they can turn the bland into a masterpiece.

"The Story of My Life" by Neil Diamond
While Neil has been around forever, you don't hear this song on many other shows besides ours. This song honors marriage and how life partners know every single nuance of each other's character.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (IZ)
A wonderful version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" with a Hawaiian twist to it. It can be found on IZ's CD "Facing Future" or the soundtrack to "Meet Joe Black."

"There's A Winner In You" by Patti Labelle
This song celebrates the talents, gifts and insights each of us has and encourages one to keep on going during tough times.

"These Are The Women We Come From" by Sisters
This song is about the wonderful bonds of love between mothers, grandmothers, aunts - the women we "come from."

"Go Light Your World" by Kathy Troccoli
Kathy sings about the importance of sharing God's love with others, of lighting our candle of hope for the world to see.

"Give It Away" by Michael W. Smith
"Love isn't love, till you give it away." It's that simple.

"Ooh Child" by Five Stairsteps
It's an oldie, but a great song of encouragement.

"I'll Lead You Home" by Michael W. Smith
An inspirational song for meeting someone "at home," be it a literal home or heavenly home. From CD titled "I'll Lead You Home."

"Itsy Bitsy Spider/Coming Around" by Carly Simon
Kids love this song because it's so fun! Moms love it because it depicts the wonderfully monotonous life of a mother.

"He's My Son" by Mark Schultz
A beautiful prayer from a parent to God to watch over and heal a critically ill child. My friend Lynn played it for me the day I returned from Children's Hospital, my son Zacky had be hospitalized for pneumonia.

"If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful" by Whitney Houston & Jermaine Jackson
One of our most requested songs, and it was one of the hardest to find! It has now been released on Whitney's new Greatest Hits CD.

"Testify To Love" by Wynonna
This song was used on a great episode of "Touched By An Angel." It's a song about faith, commitment and hope.

"If I Could" by Ray Charles
This song has been recorded by several artists, but Ray does a beautiful version! If you are looking for the perfect song from a father to his child, this is it!

"They Are The Roses" by Kathy Mattea
"They Are The Roses, They Are The Lights That Shine, They Are The Waves That Roll In The Ocean Tide, They Are Angels, They Are Souls In Flight, They Are The Hope That Everything’s Gonna Be Alright." A wonderful song about the hope that children bring in the world.

Background Music

Some listeners call and write inquiring about the background music we play during the show. Since we don't track background music ("music beds"), it is difficult to recall when a song was played, who it's by, etc. So, I put this together in hopes that it will help those who are looking for some good background music!
